Cooperative Principles

TFC aligns with the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) Statement on the Cooperative Identity.

ICA Cooperative Identity

Values in Practice

The cooperative principles are the foundation of everything we do. Adopted by the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), these seven guidelines show how cooperatives turn shared values — self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity — into everyday practice. TFC and its member societies uphold these principles in governance, services and community programmes.

1 Voluntary & Open Membership
2 Democratic Member Control
3 Members Economic Participation
4 Autonomy & Independence
5 Education, Training & Information
6 Co-operation among Co-operatives
7 Concern for Community

Principles in Practice at TFC

From democratic member control in the General Assembly to cooperation among cooperatives through apex networking, TFC embeds ICA principles in advocacy, education, market linkages and community development programmes.
